Paul loved Timothy like a son and trusted him to do a difficult job. He was to instruct and correct false teachings. He was to stay and complete the work that Paul had assigned.
The Assignment
As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith. I Timothy 1:3-4 NIV
. Paul needed to go on to Macedonia but Timothy was to stay in Ephesis and teach truth when truth might not have been what the people wanted to hear.
